For Jan, paying such close attention to the wondrous nature of flowers and plants, so she can re-create them in miniature, has kept her feeling so alive into her 80s.

Jan says:

I am now in my 80s and believe making miniatures is what has kept me going all these years. I look at the world more carefully because of miniatures. I adore plants and being in my garden; observing closely the different forms, patterns and colours of every flower. Nature is wondrous like that, and you can spend a lot of time just looking, even if you never get to grips with it all. All the staff in the local garden centre know me because I am always there, considering the plants and getting inspiration for my next miniature. I feel so in tune with life because I must pay such close attention to it in order to scale it down and try and capture the precise details. I can happily work in the garden shed for 8 hours a day making; I could never be bored with so much to wonder at. It must be why I still feel so alive!
