It can be challenging for Jen to work out how to hand-weave her intricate miniatures, but overcoming hurdles also relieves her stress.

Jen says:

For me, it is the craftsmanship that goes into miniatures that makes them amazing. I think there is a real challenge in recreating something in miniature. You are constantly having to work out how something is made and how you can recreate that with different materials, techniques and tools in ways that make it looks realistic. It does require a lot of visualisation, calculating, logic and problem-solving. Because of the scale, it is also very intricate and requires your hands and fingers to be coordinated and precise. I enjoy it but it can take a while and I can get stalled, especially if I am working on a new piece. There is a lot of stopping and starting and trying to figure out how to do things. So, if you're someone who likes a challenge, I think this is the craft for you. You're constantly having to work things out. But eventually you can overcome the hurdles and then it is so satisfying to sit back and look at what you made. For me, this is coupled with quitting a job that was very stressful. It was making me ill and I needed to quit. I took up making miniatures and now it is my stress relief because these are problems I can solve.
